GENERAL INFORMATION

Initial Situation

38 public schools in the federal state of Lower Austria were pooled together in a performance contracting project. Much of the technical equipment used in the schools was in a state of suboptimal performance and efficiency. In addition to implementing building performance improvements, approximately 1.250 classes with 30.000 students participated in the project “User Motivation for Energy-Conscious Behaviour”.

TYPE OF MEASURES Ten year energy savings contract, new regulation and control systems, individual room controls, application of reference detectors and thermostats, hydraulic equipment, damping and insulation of windows, condensing boiler and exhaust chiller, heat pumps and solar plants, heat recovery at ventilation systems, optimization of ventilation systems, energy efficient lighting, time switch towards stand-by, and energy metering.
